Description

About this book

"The Nights of Straparola, Volume 1" by Giovanni Francesco Straparola is a rich collection of fables and stories written in the mid-16th century. The work serves as a foundational piece in the history of European fairy tales, blending various themes from folklore, morality, and courtly life. It features a colorful cast of characters, including noble figures and common folk, who navigate through moral lessons often established through both humor and misadventure. The beginning of "The Nights of Straparola" introduces readers to a charming assembly of characters—including the graceful Lucretia and her entourage of beautiful maidens—who gather in a splendid palace to share stories during the Carnival season. The tales are brought to life through their vivid narratives, starting with a fable about Salardo, a young man who defies the wise injunctions left by his deceased father, leading to a series of comedic and tragic misfortunes.
